Lewiston Adult Education Storm Cancellation Information


--If Lewiston Public Schools cancel their classes because of a storm, then all classes before 4 p.m. are canceled.


--If afternoon or evening classes are closed because of weather conditions, information will be posted on the Lewiston Adult Education website:


Announcements will also appear on Lewiston Adult Ed’s Facebook page and Twitter Feed.

Scenes From Fall Super Saturday Handiwork

The fall session of Lewiston Adult Education's Super Saturday had an unofficial theme of showing off handiwork. Teachers guided students when it came to first aid and using henna.

Basket making kept many busy for hours in the Lewiston High School cafeteria on Saturday, Oct. 14. The other day-long session was the CPR, First Aid and AED Training.

Finding the Green Ladle


The Green Ladle is home to Lewiston Regional Technical Center's culinary arts program. It is in another building close to the high school.

In additon to being run by LRTC students and staff, it hosts a variety of community events and serves as a local polling place. The Green Ladle has held classes with Lewiston Adult Education during the school year and summer.

Super Saturday Coming To Lewiston Adult Ed On Oct. 14

Michel Vining of United Ambulance is scheduled to teach a CPR class for Lewiston Adult Education’s Fall Super Saturday.


Lewiston Adult Education will have dance, genealogy and roller derby in the mix for Fall Super Saturday classes.

Super Saturday will be held on Oct. 14 at Lewiston High School. The first class will begin at 8:30 a.m.

The sessions allow people who might not have the time during the week or would like an extended period of time for a particular subject. Michel Vining of United Ambulance will teach CPR, First Aid and AED training. Martha Chessie shall instruct a Utility/Clothes Basket class. Stasia Minkowsky, who teaches a number of meditation classes, will offer her Introduction to Metaphysics and Meditation class.

Two teachers will offer shorter sessions for Super Saturday. Lin Wright will have two genealogy classes, Using and Genealogy for Beginners. Anna Golendukhina shall teach Latin Basics: Salsa and Latin, Bachata and Merengue.

In addition to genealogy, new offerings include Nancy Callahan teaching about Henna and Danielle Fortin teaching Getting Up To Speed About Roller Derby. Fortin will talk about the popularity of Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby and different ways in which people can participate.

Lunch will be included with all day-long classes. Utility/Clothes Basket and Henna have lab fees.

Fall College Transition Program To Teach Time Management, Scholarship Searches


College Transition Program instructor Amy Hatch presents Susanna Straight with a Certificate of Completion at the end of the spring semester’s College Transition Program.


People looking to prepare for college and for scholarship help can sign up for the fall session of the College Transition Program at Lewiston Adult Education.


The free program reviews reading, writing and math skills in a college-style setting. It will include an expanded focus on time management as well as finding and applying for scholarships.


Class begins Sept. 12 at Lewiston Adult Education's suite at the B Street Community Center on 57 Birch St. in Lewiston. The 14-week fall session will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. 


Students will visit the University of Southern Maine's Lewiston-Auburn College, Central Maine Community College and Kaplan University during the semester. Representatives from Northeast Technical Institute, the Maine Educational Opportunity Center and the Finance Authority of Maine will make classroom appearances.

How To Find The B Street Center

The B Street Community Center has a number of offices in it, including one for Lewiston Adult Education. It is located at the corner of Bates and Birch streets.


The B Street Center holds College Transition Program classes and Work Readiness training. Its address is 57 Birch St.

The parking lot is on the other side of the building.The entrance sits on the right-hand side.

Head through the doors to the end of the hallway. The stairs are on the left.



Go through the door at the top of the stairs.

Directions To Lewiston's Adult Learning Center

Lewiston Adult Education's Adult Learning Center is located in the basement of Longley School on 145 Birch St. Students can work on getting their high school equivalency as well as take citizenship and English classes.

The office is also where records are kept for people who have received their GED. Maine now uses the HiSET exam for testing. The main number is 207-795-4141.


The sign on Birch Street says "Multi-Purpose Center."

The Longley School sign is about the main entrance. But the Adult Learning Center door is off to the right of the building.

The entrance is between two trees, with a blue sign covered by branches.


One or both doors will be open during regular hours.

How To Find Lewiston Adult Education At Lewiston High School

Lewiston Adult Education offers many classes at Lewiston High School, which is located at 156 East Ave. in Lewiston. The main entrance to the high school is the best way to reach our office and classes.

Here's the outside of Lewiston High School. The flagpole and sign serve as easy landmarks to spot the entrance.

If you follow the path behind the flagpole, you will reach the main doors.

Take a few more steps and enter the doors on the left. The doors on the right are locked.


The left-hand entrance has a set of double doors.

After going through the second set of doors, our office is straight ahead. A staff member at the front desk or standing in the lobby should be available to show where your class is.

New, Free Classes Coming For Fall At Lewiston Adult Education


Lewiston Adult Education teacher Anna Golendukhina holds flowers given to her by students in her final class in the spring. She will teach two classes in Fall 2017.


Registration has opened for Fall 2017 classes at Lewiston Adult Education with new and free classes.

The brochure has more than 30 new offerings. They include Spanish, Basic Arabic and Introduction to Digital Photography.

A number of classes are free with registration. Budgeting Basics is set to cover money tracking and goal setting. Doug Dumont of Lewiston High School’s Aspirations Lab will teach two different sessions of Navigating the College Admission and Enrollment Process.

People looking to increase  job skills or find a new career have choices in workforce training. The Certified Nursing Assistant program will return for the fall, along with Welding I, Welding II and Computer Literacy.

A cooking class addition will be Sambusas, which is a fried pastry with meat filling. Zamzam Mahmoud will be the teacher.

Chef Junlong Bunleng of Pepper and Spice restaurant shall teach a new class as well, Thai Appetizers.  He will also offer his popular Thai Cooking.

Fall Super Saturday is scheduled for Oct. 14 at Lewiston High School. Anna Golendukhina will return to teach two half-day dance classes. Martha Chessie will instruct students in Plastic Bag Wall Basket.

Picture Yourself As CNA: Training Has August Start


            People interested in becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant have two different options beginning next month.

            Auburn Adult and Community Education’s Earn While You Learn program and Lewiston Adult Education’s Ready to Work program will partner with St. Mary’s Health System for CNA training in August.

            CNA students will complete 180 hours of classroom instruction and labs and 70 hours of clinical work at St. Mary’s. After completing the training, students will need to pass the state exam to be eligible for state certification.
