Fall Super Saturday, Small Engine Class Mark Change Of Seasons

Super Saturday and a pair of weeknight classes will mark the start of fall at Lewiston Adult Education.

Small Engine & Power Equipment Repair and Bargello Quilts both start on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Lewiston High School. Small Engine will allow people to fix chain shaws and snowblowers. Bargello Quilts, which involve vibrant color patterns, can give students an artistic outlet while staying warm.

 The classes had been listed with earlier start dates in the Fall 2018 brochure.

This semester's Super Saturday is set for Saturday, Oct. 13, at Lewiston High School. Classes with openings include Quilling for Beginners, Russian for Beginners, Spiritual Metaphysics: Heart-Based Living, Tea Tasting, PowerPoint and Jasmine Cafe Food Truck. 

Supanne Saengwong of Jasmine Cafe will talk about the food truck business as well as Asian cuisine before letting students try food from the truck. People interested in the Tea Tasting with Hawo Abdille will need to bring in their own mugs in order to sample the many different varieties that will be offered. Victor Caron shall explain ways to make the most of a presentation by using the computer program PowerPoint.

Lewiston, Auburn Adult Education’s CNA Training Begins Oct. 1

Members of the most recent Certified Nursing Assistant class had their picture taken in their lab this summer.

People interested in starting a career as a Certified Nursing can take classes next month with Lewiston Adult Education and Auburn Adult and Community Education.

The classes will be held in Auburn and cost $275 per student. It is being done in partnership with the Marshwood Center of Lewiston.

The program begins Oct. 1. Classes will be held at Edward Little High School in Auburn on Mondays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

CNA students will complete 180 hours of classroom instruction and labs in addition to 70 hours of clinical work. After completing the training, students will need to pass the state exam to be eligible for Maine certification.

To begin the application process, contact Lewiston Adult Education at 207-795-4141 or by calling Auburn Adult & Community Education at 207-333-6661. Students will have to take a CASAS, or Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System, test along with having an interview.
