Lewiston Adult Education’s Winter-Spring 2022 brochure features Chair Zumba, basket weaving, chickens, and conversational Somali classes among its new schedule.
The brochure will go out to homes in Lewiston and Auburn by mid-January. People can also register online by going to www.lewiston.maineadulted.org.
The booklet features Lewiston classes on one side and others from Auburn Adult & Community Education on the other. It is dedicated in the memory of Edward Little High School teacher Larry Gordon, who died in the fall of 2021. Gordon did the design and layouts for Lewiston and Auburn brochures.
The schedule will include in person and online options. Students will be required to wear masks during all in-person classes.
Becki Leighton will teach the Chair Zumba. Participants remain seated in the class while participating in a workout to uptempo music. Leighton’s class is set to begin on March 8.
Longtime basket weaving teacher Martha Chessie will hold one more class for Lewiston Adult Education before retiring. Students can register for her Apple Basket class, which is scheduled for April 13.
Siad Shaleh will return to teach Somali languages classes. Somali Intro starts on Feb. 10 and Somali Intermediate begins on March 17. Both classes will have a focus on conversational skills.
Dr. Colt Knight of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension has a class set April 13, Keeping Chickens. The livestock specialist will cover topics including nutrition, winter care, and predators.
Standup Comedy will return with Dawn Hartill. Students will work on developing a routine with feedback from classmates. The final exam will be a performance in front of an audience.
Classes will be held at the Adult Learning Center in Longley School on 145 Birch St. in Lewiston.
